Stronz Vanderploeg pits the Panasonic GH5 against the GH4, against the URSA Mini 4.6K camera.
After a weekend of extensive filming and hours and hours of editing, here’s a complete and comprehensive overview of the Lumix GH5 specifically focused on its video production features and how it compares to the Lumix GH4 as well as the much more expensive Blackmagic Design Ursa Mini 4.6K.
*Any non-native lenses were used with a Metabones Speed Booster Ultra .71x
*All shots with the Lumix 12-35mm were shot with IBIS as well as lens stabilization = “DUAL IS”
*All editing and color grading was handled directly inside Premiere Pro CC2017 with native GH5 files. None of the files were transcoded but they were all conformed to 23.98fps.
***UPDATE: Just yesterday Metabones released new firmware for proper GH5 support
PROS: IBIS, Price, 10bit Internal Codec, V-Log L Improvement, High Frame Rates, No Crop 4K, and Video-Centric Features
CONS: Autofocus Reliability, Paid V-Log L Upgrade, Low-Light, Micro 4/3rds 2X Crop, Need Speed Booster for Wider Field of View and Shallower Depth of Field, Minor Software Bugs (should be fixed soon)
