Zylight will introduce the Newz, a compact on-camera light designed for broadcast news and other run-and-gun shooting applications, March 10-12 at CABSAT 2015 (Hall 2, Stand 208) in Dubai and April 13-16 at the 2015 NAB Show (Booth C8043) in Las Vegas, Nev.
The variable white light includes brightness settings from tungsten (3200K) to daylight (5600K), while a unique articulated arm design allows shooters to easily adjust the height and angle of the light.
Designed primarily for ENG and similar remote shoots, the Newz includes custom barn doors and provides a 60-degree beam spread at full width half maximum (FWHM) for a soft falloff around the edges. It also features ZyLink, Zylight’s wireless technology, so it can be linked to multiple Zylights for simultaneous remote control.
With quantum dot technology and proprietary LED chips, the fully dimmable Newz delivers a very high quality of light for true color reproduction on par with the company’s flagship product, the F8 LED Fresnel.
“The Newz is not your ordinary on-camera light. It produces a significantly higher quality of light that’s comparable to the output of our larger, world-class lighting instruments,” explained Joe Arnao, president of Zylight.
“It is a soft but punchy light that complements skin tones, so reporters in the field and the people they interview will look their best.”
The Newz is the first lighting instrument available on Zylight’s new compact ZX platform. In the fall, the company plans to release the Z90plus, an updated version of its popular Z90 premium on-camera light.
An optional hot shoe accessory will also be available for the Newz, so DSLR shooters can take advantage of the light’s strobe functionality. The Newz has an MSRP of $429 and will be available in May.

Zylight will showcase its current product line at CABSAT 2015 (Hall 2, Stand 208), which runs March 10-12 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The company will demonstrate its F8 LED Fresnel, which collapses to less than four inches thick for easy transport, and its IS3c LED large panel light, which produces millions of colors or white.

The original F8 is available in daylight (5600K) or tungsten (3200K) versions, and features quantum dot technology to provide a more refined and balanced natural light output. It delivers a high CRI (Color Rendering Index) as well as a high TLCI (Television Lighting Consistency Index). It also has an adjustable beam spread (16-70 degrees), patented focusing system for spot and flood operations, and an eight-inch SCHOTT glass lens that maintains single shadow traditional Fresnel beam shaping.
F8 LED Fresnel
Bright like an HMI, the F8 remains cool to the touch and is a better choice for run-and-gun ENG applications. It delivers close to the light output of a traditional 1000-watt Fresnel, but only draws 90 watts and can be powered by a standard 14.4V camera battery or AC adapter. The F8 is also water resistant (IP54), so it is a dependable lighting option in challenging location conditions.
Zylight will also show its F8-B, a black light version of its LED Fresnel with a proprietary ultraviolet chip for specialized lighting requirements in amusements park attractions, nightclubs, or theatrical productions. The F8-B provides four times the fluorescent brightness of a traditional 400-watt Fresnel black light at the same distance, but only draws about one quarter of the electrical power.
It is one of the only dedicated LED UV instruments on the market that delivers variable zoom control.
IS3 LED Light
The fully dimmable, full spectrum IS3c can serve as a background color wash light or as a wide soft light. The versatile, high-output light features built-in controls for adjusting color temperature, color correction, and Zylight’s Color Mode, which produces millions of colors without gels or filters. Plus, the light includes a choice of a newly redesigned Chimera soft box or spring loaded pop-up version designed by DoP Choice.
All Zylights are equipped with ZyLink wireless technology, which makes it easy to link multiple instruments for simultaneous remote control, and can be controlled via DMX.
The F8 and IS3c are available in traditional black fixtures or white fixtures, which are sometimes required for specific architectural and staging applications.
