mediAVentures recently performed a perfect full S3D live case transmission of a hip replacement, via satellite and projected on a huge screen in Annecy, France using the PS-Freestyle Rig.
Projected onto a huge 3.5x6m 3D screen, this live surgery again sets the standard for interactive learning. We employ a fully new compact 3D rig in the operating room, completely controllable for interocular distance and convergence, while at the same time being able to zoom in and focus to almost macro mode from a distance of only 1 meter. The two full HD cameras on this rig capture the entire procedure from the surgeon’s view, while two other 3D cameras provide additional images from the OR.
“For us the purchase and use of the PS-Freestyle Rig was the logical step-up from an experimental and complicated try-out phase to a fully workable professional 3D workflow with which we can now safely enter the high stress environment of a live surgery set-up where there is no place for do-it-once-more. We performed a perfect full S3D, three camera, live case transmission of a hip replacement, via satellite and projected on a huge screen in Annecy, France, just like we have been doing 2D live surgeries since more than 20 years”, says Wim Van Renterghem, General Manager at mediAVentures.
