Visual Impact slap the Sony FS5 camera on a Canon CN-E 18-80mm Compact Servo lens and perform some quick tests.
We wanted to check if the Canon CN-E 18-80mm T4.4L IS KAS compact servo zoom will work on a Sony PXW-FS5 via a Metabones E to EF Smart Adapter mark IV and here’s what we found out from our quick test:
– if you use a Metabones Speedbooster you’d get vignetting from 18mm to around 37mm, that’s because the Canon 18-80mm is designed to cover Super 35, not full-frame.
– Image Stabilisation works but only in a ON or OFF configuration (the Canon 18-80mm has 3 IS positions, but we found that those work best only on Canon EOS cameras like the C300 II) this may be fixed with a firmware update by either Metabones or Canon, but it may not.
NOTE: This was a very quick and short test that was not scientific in any way. This was also a PRE-PRODUCTION model of the lens. We had 15 minutes with the lens and all we wanted to test is whether it would work with the FS5, and it does. Just beware of the two points above.
