Matthews Studio Equipment known for innovative state of the art technology to support the entertainment industry recently struck a strategic partnership with Sage Seb to produce the Infinity Arm, a reliable and indestructible articulating arm that supports a variety of today’s cameras, lights, monitors and more.
The concept of the Infinity Arm was born out of frustration. Seb, who travels the world shooting everything from features and short form to commercials for Elle, Nine West and more as well as major EPK packages was constantly frustrated with his support package. “I’ve had camera support arms fall apart in the middle of the shoot, with no access to repair or replacement,” he says. “Trying to make due cost time – not to mention a lot of gaffer tape!
“It got me to thinking about what I really needed in a camera support arm,” he explains. “I needed something that I could trust – that would be reliable, no matter how many times I repeated a move or how difficult the conditions. I needed to be able to hang and mount expensive camera/lens packages and customize the arm to whatever you need to get the job done.”
Seb began his project as a Kickstarter program – and the response was amazing. When he realized that he’d created a tool that would not only satisfy his needs – but would help others who were just as frustrated as he was, he looked for a manufacturer in the USA to produce this new arm.“The minute we saw Seb’s design we knew it would be a perfect component to our camera support equipment,” says Tyler Phillips, Vice President Product Management & Marketing for Matthews Studio Equipment. “It is everything an arm should be. Our engineering department worked with Sage to refine the Infinity Arm – and make it ready for introduction at NAB 2016.”
The result, a reliable and indestructible arm that can mount everything from a GoPro to a cinema camera or a monitor and more. Made at Matthews Burbank, CA facility, CNC’d our of tool steel and aircraft aluminum, the arms are plated with military grade anodized and proprietary electroless nickel phosphorus. The center pivot point of the arm includes a 60 section rosette for superior strength and adjustability. Matthews has designed the Infinity Arm so that a wide variety of tips – allowing for quick interchange to support a wide variety of tools.
