DJI Launches the ELKNA Pro – The World’s First 8K Smart Ankle Monitor for “Restricted” Visionaries
Equipped with 1-Inch CMOS Imaging, O4+ Video Transmission, and Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing – Flagship Aerial Technology, Now Court-Mandated
SHENZHEN, China, April 1, 2026 /PRRNewswire/ – DJI, the global leader in civilian drones and creative camera technology, today announced the ELKNA and ELKNA Pro, a bold expansion into ‘personal security lifestyle’ tech that proves your creative vision doesn’t have to end where your court-ordered boundary begins. Equipped with DJI’s flagship 1-inch CMOS imaging sensor, O4+ video transmission, and omnidirectional obstacle sensing – technology derived directly from DJI’s Avata 360 FPV platform – the ELKNA series allows users to effortlessly walk 360 degrees around their court-mandated geofence while achieving stunning cinematic recordings in 8K/60fps. Why just serve time when you can capture it in HDR?

DJI ELKNA Pro
Redefining the Geofence
The ELKNA Pro’s wide-angle lens captures a full ground-level field of view in a perspective DJI is calling the “Restricted Horizon” – previously unavailable to consumers in the ankle-to-shoe zone. The onboard 1-inch sensor delivers up to 120MP RAW stills, sufficient resolution to document every square metre of an approved dwelling and its immediate surrounds in forensic detail – which DJI notes benefits both the wearer and any interested parties reviewing the footage. The premium ELKNA Pro is available with a traditional dim grey opaque front panel or comes with a transparent front panel displaying the meticulously organised internal components, reflecting precision engineering and, in this context, an openness to scrutiny.
Precision Missions for the Parolee-Pilot
The ELKNA Pro is specifically optimised for drone pilots currently out on bail. Using the new DJI Liberty App, pilots can sync their ankle monitor with their drone platform – including the Avata 360 – to execute pinpoint-accurate aerial missions using GPS waypoints. While the ELKNA safely tracks a person’s location and movements for the relevant authorities, the operator can focus entirely on achieving the perfect shot. Both the wearer’s court-approved zone and the drone’s active flight path are visible in a single unified geospatial interface – a feature DJI’s legal team reviewed for eleven months before approving for release.
“We identified a genuine gap in the market for high-end cinematography solutions among the temporarily geofenced community. With the ELKNA Pro, your parole officer receives the GPS telemetry they require, your followers receive the 120MP stills they expect, and DJI receives a margin that makes the whole thing worthwhile for everyone.”
– Barb Wire, DJI’s Head of Restrictive Lifestyle Solutions.

DJI ELKNA Pro – Smart Ankle Monitor
Powerful Video Transmission, Immersive Compliance
The ELKNA Pro leverages DJI’s O4+ video transmission system – the same technology powering the Avata 360’s ultra-low-latency FPV link – to deliver live 4K/60fps streaming directly from the device to the DJI Liberty App. Transmission range extends to 10km in open conditions, which DJI notes is meaningfully beyond the boundary of most court-issued geofences, and therefore principally useful for demonstrating compliance rather than exploring its limits. A dedicated transmission indicator light on the device face confirms live streaming status to any observing parties at all times.
For GNSS-degraded environments – underground car parks, reinforced structures, or locations where mobile signal is conspicuously absent – the ELKNA stores footage locally at full 8K resolution across 42GB of internal storage: approximately 30 minutes of high-bitrate material. DJI’s engineers declined to elaborate on how this benchmark was established.

DJI ELKNA – Smart Ankle Monitor (Standard)
Walk With Confidence, Create With Ease
ELKNA’s intelligent motion analysis anticipates directional intent up to 4.2 seconds before a boundary event occurs, providing administrators with advance notification and giving wearers an opportunity to reconsider their trajectory. The system automatically distinguishes between purposeful boundary-directed walking, passive drift (such as being carried on a ride-on mower), and what DJI terms “apparently innocent gardening motion trending toward the neighbour’s property.” It also brings an exceptional experience to personal compliance management, where the ELKNA Pro’s 360-degree imaging can be transformed into multiple, masterful creations through post-production using the DJI Liberty App, including:
- •ActiveTrack 360 (Probation Edition) – Automatically selects the optimal tracking mode to keep the wearer in frame, even during the daily 20-minute approved fresh air perimeter walk. Subject re-acquisition following abrupt directional changes: 0.3 seconds.
- •Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing – Derived from the Avata 360’s four-direction obstacle avoidance suite. Detects and logs proximity events with boundary fences, patio furniture, and medium-sized dogs. Sensitive enough to identify an approaching parole officer at 6 metres in daylight.
- •Virtual Gimbal – Uses a 360-degree view to enable infinite rotation and tilt for dynamic camera moves. Ensures recorded footage remains level during vigorous walking, sudden stops, or what DJI’s motion team logged as “running from a misunderstanding.”
- •Intelligent Tamper Detection – 340 removal attempt signatures identified, including aerosol refrigerant application and the aluminium foil manoeuvre. Ambiguous Intent mode distinguishes purposeful removal from sock donning, cross-legged sitting, and the medium-sized dog scenario documented extensively during QA.
- •Replaceable Front Lens Element – Purchase a replacement lens kit and swap it out in under 60 seconds – no need to send it in for repair. Particularly useful following what the warranty team describes as enforcement-related contact events.
- •42GB Internal Storage and High-Speed Transfers – With 42GB of internal storage, record 30 minutes of 8K footage without a microSD card. Using Wi-Fi 6 High-Speed Transfer, 1GB of footage can be transferred to the DJI Liberty App in 10 seconds at up to 100 MB/s.
- •FPV Mode – Enables natural roll effects to be applied in post-production for dynamic, high-speed FPV-style footage of the approved dwelling and its surrounds.
The device’s onboard wide-angle camera allows remote visual verification by authorised administrators. Camera access requires two-factor authentication. A discrete notification LED on the inner face of the device advises the wearer when a visual check-in is in progress. The video function is – technically – able to be disabled.
