Panasonic Corporation will commence joint research with Digital Hollywood University in Tokyo toward the development of new forms of video expression that utilize 4K technology, and digital imaging equipment such as digital single lens mirrorless (DSLM) cameras compatible with 4K video.

This spring Panasonic will commence worldwide release of the LUMIX GH4(*1), the world’s first(*2) DSLM camera compatible with 4K.
The joint study to be conducted with Tomoyuki Sugiyama Office at the university’s Media Science Laboratory, which conducts research on cutting edge digital media content, will advance research into the full utilization of state-of-the-art-imaging equipment such as the LUMIX GH4. Panasonic will use feedback obtained through demonstration testing at fashion events, 4K short film production and high quality live streaming conducted by Digital Hollywood University for further product development.

Panasonic will use the results of this joint research to achieve new video expression technology optimized for the high resolution age, with highly detailed, realistic images that only 4K can deliver. In addition to creating new value for our customers, Panasonic aims to contribute to the establishment of a new photographic and film culture.
