The Society of Camera Operators (SOC) announces that the 2013 Governors Award for Lifetime Achievement will be presented to Penny Marshall.

The SOC honors her commitment, dedication and mastery of the art and craft as Producer, Director and Actress with their Governors Award for a true Lifetime of Achievement. Penny Marshall, born into a show business family, began her acting career in the television situation comedy The Odd Couple and as title character Laverne in the hit show Laverne and Shirley. Marshall first turned to directing feature films with Jumpin’ Jack Flash at the urging of friend Whoopi Goldberg. Her biggest box office hits soon followed with Awakenings, Big, and A League of Their Own.

This year the SOC salutes Women in the Industry and Ms. Marshall joins the other Lifetime Achievement, Distinguished Service, Historical Shot and Technical Achievement Award recipients as well as all of the talented nominees for SOC Camera Operator of the Year in Features and Television.

These awards recognize individuals, companies and accomplishments that have exemplified the finest standards of technical achievement by supporting the job of the camera operators and allied fields in the motion picture and television industry.

The 2013 SOC Lifetime Achievement Awards will take place March 9th at The Leonard Goldenson Theatre at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in North Hollywood, California.
